College Station Sleep Center Receives National Accreditation
Only Accredited Sleep Lab in the Brazos Valley
COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS (October 15, 2010) - The College Station Sleep Center has received national accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). The accreditation distinguishes College Station Sleep Center as meeting or exceeding national quality-of-care measures for sleep disorder treatment. College Station Sleep Center is the only accredited sleep center in the Brazos Valley.
“This is something we have been working towards for several years,” says Rajesh Harrykissoon, MD, of College Station Center for Pulmonary and Sleep Disorders and Medical Director for College Station Sleep Center. “This accreditation demonstrates that we meet the highest criteria to perform sleep studies. With these studies, we assist physicians in the diagnosis of sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, and other common sleep and breathing disorders that plague thousands of Americans.”
A National Sleep Foundation poll released earlier this year showed approximately one third of all adults report less sleep than they need to function. The AASM estimated that one in 25 men; one in 50 women; and one in 10 people over the age of 65 have some form of sleep apnea. Approximately 35 million people suffer from insomnia.
Among the most commonly diagnosed sleep disorders are:
- Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)
- Central Sleep Apnea
- Primary Snoring
- Insomnia
- Periodic Limb Movement Disorder
- Narcolepsy
The AASM is committed to ensuring that those in the field of sleep medicine provide quality healthcare and enhance the awareness of sleep as an important element for health, public safety, and quality of life.
