College Station Medical Center's daVinci robot has been inducted into the Robot Hall of Fame.
Hospital officials said that the daVinci Surgical System was designed to assist surgeons with minimally invasive procedures.
Doctors at The Med use the robot for laparoscopic techniques during procedures that normally require major incisions. The robot has articulated arms and a camera that the surgeon controls from a separate console.
Since 2003, the Robot Hall of Fame has honored robots and creators at an exhibit in Pennsylvania. It's maintained by Carnegie Mellon University and the Carnegie Science Center.
An international jury of researchers, writers and designers selected the daVinci as one of five new robots to join the cast, officials from The Med said.
